The
Sr. B Langley Ukulele Ensemble is one of the honour
groups that have developed as a result of Langley's
Ukulele Program. We are the group that is responsible
for preparing students to audition for, and join
the Sr. A Ensemble. Our
group echoes the motto of "Enriching Lives
through Music" and we strive to teach children
musical, stage, and public speaking skills.
As is the case with the other honour groups, we
aim to show young people the importance of being
community-minded and responsible citizens. We
use the ukulele as a means of bringing students
together to engage in teamwork, embrace positive
friendships, and understand the commitment needed
to accomplish excellence.
The
directors, Lisa Luongo and Joylin Northey, are
both past members of the Langley Ukulele Ensemble.
As teachers, they are now giving back to a program
that has positively impacted both of their lives.
It
is Lisa and Joylin's hope that the students of
the Sr. B will have the opportunity to join the
top Ensemble, continue to develop musically and
personally, and endeavour to teach other students
so that the program can continue to thrive.
The
Sr. B Langley Ukulele Ensemble, which consists
of 29 children (ages 11 to 17), performs within
their community and the Province of BC about 25
times a year. The students rehearse once a week
for two hours and spend time together outside
of the classroom going on retreats, having socials,
and sharing their talents among friends. One of
the wonderful things about this group and Langley's
Ukulele Program in general, is that young people
learn that they can make a significant difference
in this world through exercising their talents.
Every time an audience stands and cheers for these
kids their faces light up - they realize that
musical and personal excellence can change lives.

Current
Updates:
The Sr. B Langley Ukulele Ensemble was pleased
to have a number of concert opportunities throughout
the fall and looks forward to another busy spring!
Currently, the students have a number of shows
planned around the communities of Langley, Surrey
and Abbotsford and will enjoy their first concert
in downtown Vancouver at the end of April.
The
Sr. B will also be having a day retreat in late
February to focus on teambuilding activities and
musical development. In addition to the upcoming
concerts and retreat, the Sr. B Ensemble will
be holding its second annual recital in May (the
exact date is to be determined) and will be venturing
out to Kelowna at the end of May for a fourth
annual weekend concert tour. Upon our return,
some of our students will be auditioning to get
into the Sr. A Ensemble and we will also be holding
auditions to recruit new members into the Sr.
B for the fall of 2008.
